Our goal is to determine if and how increased crop diversity attenuates the responses of soil C, microbes, & pesticide use to changing precip patterns. Both positions will work within the DART field trials (kallenbachcm.wixsite.com/soils/lab-news) at McGill, w/ lab opportunities at AAFC

The PhD will focus on soil microbial comms are affected by altered precip. The Postdoc (2-yr) will focus on mechanisms related to SOM retention & destabilization. Both will explore how microbial responses to changing precip might be modified by increasing crop diversity

In 2022, we established a research field trial to examine the interactive effects of crop diversity and altered precipitation regimes on soils and microbial processes, pesticide use, and agronomic performance. Our goal is to determine if and how increased crop diversity attenuates the responses of soil carbon, microbial communities, and pesticide use to changing precipitation patterns. The project is supported by the FRQNT-MAPAQ Partnership Research Program-Sustainable Agriculture.
