Position: Ph.D. student

Scholarship period: 36 months from 10.2022 to 09.2025

Scholarship amount: 4500 PLN per month (without taxes)

Requirements:

  • Completed undergraduate study and/or graduate study in Power Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Ph.D. student status at Doctoral School
  • Knowledge of Matlab software at the minimum advanced level
  • Programming in Python or C or FORTRAN or C++
  • Knowledge of Ansys Fluent software will be beneficial
  • Experience of carry out of the experimental research using pressure, temperature, and mass flow rate measurements will be beneficial
  • Participation in at least one research project regarding refrigeration or thermoelectric module application or coupled numerical problems will be beneficial
  • Knowledge of English at the minimum B2 level confirmed by the certification or the research paper or the conference paper
  • Declaration of the commencement of a doctorate at Department of Thermal Technology, SUT in Gliwice, Konarskiego 22, Poland, no later than 30 days from the date of signing the scholarship agreement

Tasks description:

The Ph.D. scholarship recipient will be participated under the NCN SONATA research project activities No. UMO-2021/43/D/ST8/02631 entitled: „Comprehensive study of the thermoelectric sub-cooling as a future/next step in the state-of-the-art ejector-based refrigeration cycle for food chain reduction” led by Michal Haida. The main tasks will be as follows: (1) numerical modelling using Computational Fluid Dynamics coupled with Electromagnetic numerical model (CFD-EM) of the thermoelectric sub-cooling unit applied for ejector-based vapour compression units using natural working fluids: CO2, propane, and mixture CO2/propylene; (2) experimental investigation of the ejector-based refrigeration units equipped with the thermoelectric sub-cooling units carried out on two test facilities located at SUT lab and at the test facility located at the University Jaume I lab (Castellon, Spain); and (3) shape optimisation procedure of the thermoelectric sub-cooling unit using developed numerical model.

The Ph.D. scholarship recipient will be selected by a competition committee chaired by prof. Jacek Smołka, head of the Department of Thermal Technology, and members of committee are Michał Haida, project PI, and Michał Palacz
